Pointers Apothecary & Broom Co. started with my love of plants, the woods, foraging, and a little bit of witchcraft. I’ve always felt most at home with my hands in the dirt, wandering through the woods with a dog beside me, or learning something new from Mother Nature. Somewhere along the way, that love became something I could share with my son, Logan, and eventually became this little family business we’ve built together.
Logan’s journey started with foraging in 2020. What began with him wandering the woods and learning everything he could about mushrooms eventually grew into our apothecary side of the business. He’s now studying horticulture and spends plenty of time growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers, learning as he goes. My own path took a slightly stranger turn. As my son loves to remind me, I texted him one random Tuesday and announced that I was going to make a broom. I’m still not entirely sure how that turned into my life, but here we are.
One of my favorite things about Pointers is that everything starts with our own two sets of hands. We grow and harvest herbs whenever we can, dry them ourselves, and turn them into infused oils and plant-based creations. Every broom is made one at a time from broomcorn and twine. Whenever possible, we use things grown at home or sourced locally. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, and I think that’s part of the magic. Each one has its own quirks, character, imperfections, and a little bit of us in it.
When we aren’t working on the shop, you’ll usually find us in the garden, wandering the woods with our dogs, foraging, looking for bones and cool rocks, or dreaming up whatever we want to make next. I usually have a dog at my side, coffee in hand, my camera close by, and dirt under my nails. Logan is usually doing something involving plants, the garden, or something new thing he’s decided to learn.
This shop is a reflection of the life we love ... family, dogs, gardens, woods, creativity, curiosity, and a little bit of magic. It’s not always polished, and it’s definitely not always clean. There’s usually dog hair on our clothes, herbs drying somewhere in the house, broomcorn waiting to be tied, and a pretty impressive mess in the workshop.
But that’s exactly how I like it.
We make things slowly, intentionally, and by hand. We make them because we love the process, because we love learning, and because we believe there’s something special about knowing where something came from and putting your own hands into creating it.
Thank you for being here, supporting our little mother-and-son business, and allowing us to share a little piece of our woods, our garden, and our magic with you.
